Beginning in a single prison with a small group of volunteers in 1979,
the We Care event "ReNew Hope" has been held each year since then and
now reaches about 25 different prisons throughout the state of
Alabama and the panhandle of Florida.
Held each January, this event attracts hundreds of volunteers,
evangelists, and musicians from all over the United States who carry
the Gospel message to thousands of men and women in Alabama's and Florida's
prison systems.
Participants meet for a day of orientation and missions rally, after
which they spread out into five different areas for four days of ministering in
prison. The volunteers enter the various prisons each morning for ministry
through friendship evangelism. Each day in the prisons also includes a chapel
service that features special music and evangelists. After exiting the prisons
in late afternoon, participants in each area gather together for a delicious
supper followed by an inspirational session.
Mature Christian men and women ages 20 and older are welcome to participate.
